The neighbourhoods began taking shape from the 10th century and, as we now know them, each one around its own hermitage: Ikazurieta neighbourhood with its San Cristobal Hermitage; Uribarri neighbourhood around the San Miguel Hermitage; San Gregorio Hermitage in the Merika neighbourhood; Santiago Hermitage in the Lekerika neighbourhood; and finally, the Elexalde neighbourhood around Santa Mar\u00eda de Gorostiza Church. Gastronomy also marks the history of Nabarniz, with its speciality of kidney beans and, above all, vegetable stew.
